ATC Tower Cab Block 5 Practice Test

The action required for the previous aircraft to authorize succeeding aircraft to depart from intersecting runways is to pass the point of runway intersection. This is crucial because until the aircraft has completely crossed the intersection, there remains a potential conflict conflicting with the departure of the next aircraft. By clearing the intersection, the previous aircraft provides the necessary assurance that the runway is fully available for the succeeding aircraft to initiate their departure safely.

This procedure ensures the safety of operations at busy airports, where multiple runways may interact, and maintaining clear communication and adherence to runway usage rules is essential for preventing accidents. Other actions, such as landing on the runway, climbing to a cruising altitude, or exiting the runway quickly, do not fulfill the specific requirement of establishing clear precedence at the point of intersection necessary for authorized departures. Each of these actions may occur but does not specifically denote that the aircraft has cleared the runway intersection, which is the primary concern for safe air traffic management.
